At the Computex 2024 event, AMD’s presentation about its new processor series Ryzen 9000 left a lot of specifics for discussion thereafter. The Ryzen 9000 series features the new Zen 5 core architecture.
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is the budget-friendly desktop CPU in the Ryzen 9000 series. With a base frequency of 3.9 GHz and a peak clock of 5.4 GHz, the processor has 6 cores and 12 threads. The processor has a single CCD with two cores disabled and caches 384 KB L1, 6 MB L2, and 32 MB L3.
The three main improvements which were shown in the AMD’s slide are:
- Front-end instructions with higher bandwidth.
- Data bandwidth from L2 to L1 and L1 to FP.
- AI performance with AVX512.
AMD claimed in these three sections that the new Zen 5 architecture will provide up to twice the performance of Zen 4. Undoubtedly, those are amazing figures; we’re not talking about a smaller percentage, but rather a 100% improvement over the Ryzen 5 7600x, which is uncommon and it still needs to be confirmed if they have achieved it.
The HXL leaker offers a screenshot of a Ryzen 5 9600X running AIDA64, where the improvement in L1 and L2 cache can be seen, so you can verify if the claimed performance boost has occurred.
There is no denying what the screenshot shows. Apart from the RAM’s performance, which has discrete memory and latency counts of 65K in reading, 93K in writing, and 60K in copy and its relatively low latency, proves that the RAM has made significant progress.
The Ryzen 5 9600X consistently achieves an L2 bandwidth of 1.8 GB/s in reading, 1.8 GB/s in writing, and an additional 1.8 GB/s in copy, indicating the significance of the Front-End modifications. And the reason for this is that, according to the percentage differences, they are +82%, +76%, and +82%, respectively.
As a result, there is a significant improvement in performance here, something that, for instance, is not present in the L3 even though it was previously said that it would also undergo remodelling.
Finally, the frequency of the FCLK is at least 3,100 MHz. Based on the causes we have already observed for the improvement in this area of the Infinity Fabric which, however, has been less than what was leaked before.
