Still No Hope For Melting RTX 4090 Cables!

Story Highlights
  • GeForce RTX 4090s are still plagued by melting 12VHPWR connectors.
  • Nvidia doesn’t seem to have a solution to fix this issue.
  • A shop states that up to 200 melted connectors show up every month.

One major issue with Nvidia’s flagship card surfaced soon after the GeForce RTX 4090 was released, with many users reporting melted 12VHPWR connectors.

The owners of these cards had legitimate concerns about their RTX 4090 burning, prompting them to search for other options right away. Many chose CableMod as an alternative, but the replacements suffered a similar fate.

According to a report, the issue continues to persist today.

Why it matters: The GeForce RTX 4090 is among Nvidia’s best and fastest-selling cards, so it needs to ensure that customers can rest easy despite such problems.

NorthridgeFix explains in their video that they receive new NVIDIA RTX 4090s that have burned and that clients want to fix daily. This is an ongoing issue, marking over a year of problems. According to the video, the shop deals with as many as 200 faulty graphics card connectors each month.

NorthridgeFix states that CableMod produced a great product. However, it was built on the poor foundations of the 12VHPWR connectors. At the end of the day, this means that the connector is bound to run into similar failures.

Even though Nvidia has already revised the connector itself, the number of faulty connectors has remained consistent.

GeForce RTX 4090 owners are advised to stick with their original cables provided by Nvidia or the power supply manufacturers for now. This option helps minimize the risk of the GPU potentially being burned in case the cable is incorrectly inserted.

Northridge Fix has also demonstrated the process of fixing faulty cables, highlighting that it is easier than major GPU fixes. However, the problem still needs attention from Nvidia because of the large number of cases.
