Great Time To Buy?

Major US retailers like Amazon and Newegg are currently offering a discount on the AMD Zen 4 desktop CPU with 3D V-Cache. Following the promotions, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D has seen its lowest pricing to date.

This processor features a total of 12 cores and 24 threads coupled with 3D Vertical Cache technology. The SKU has always been stuck between AMD’s flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is still the most suitable processor for gaming.

With a $20 discount coupon, the price of the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D has now dropped to $389, making it just $20 more expensive than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

By default, this chip has a 120W TDP rating. Although the chip can be tuned through undervolting and PBO, its maximum operating temperature is limited to 89C. This is slightly lower than that of the conventional Ryzen 9 7900X, which can sustain a higher 170-watt TDP.

Despite having 12 cores, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D has a dual-CCD architecture with a 6+6 core split between the two CCDs. Similar to the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, just one of the two CCDs features 96 MB of L3 cache.

On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a single CCD design featuring eight cores, coupled with 64 MB 3D V-Cache, giving it an edge in gaming performance. However, the more premium processor’s advantage is that it offers consumers four more cores and eight threads.

This should produce better results in multi-threaded workloads, making it a great option. The discounts offered by Amazon and Newegg are similar, so it is reasonable to believe that AMD might be involved in this planned promotion.

However, it’s not known yet how long this price reduction will persist. For those looking to game and complete productivity tasks, the 4-core difference should make this CPU a worthy purchase at this price.
