Respawn Entertainment and EA announced a new patch for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor yesterday. This patch aimed to address performance issues on consoles and confirmed DLSS for PC.
Following the announcement, many had hoped for optimization improvements across the board, hoping for significant improvements to the game’s mostly disappointing PC port.
However, the PC port does not appear to show notable improvements. A comparison video by MXBenchmarkPC shows few improvements aside from the addition of DLSS and frame generation.
Why it matters: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was among the many games released this year that had a plethora of technical issues across all platforms.
Being a game designed on Unreal Engine 4, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor still seems to be plagued with traversal stutters and in-consistent frame times with shader compilation stutters.
While this is not the first game on Unreal Engine to show such problems, fans will be disappointed that Respawn Entertainment has been unable to address these issues nearly five months after release.
This particular issue is not part of the consoles, making it even more disappointing for Star Wars fans on the PC platform. On a more positive note, DLSS brings some much-needed performance headroom for GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards.
Using DLSS 3 frame generation, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is able to achieve frame rates over 120 at 1440p on a graphics card like the GeForce RTX 4080. DLSS also brings superior image quality than FSR.
These changes add up to a better experience than before but leave much to be desired. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has earned plenty of praise for its core gameplay and narrative, but technical issues currently hold the game back from reaching its true potential.
While the game appears to have made significant improvements on consoles, many will be disappointed that the latest patch has not helped the PC version deliver the best iteration of the game possible.
