Immortals Fenyx Rising is nearly three years old. Following the new IP’s success, reports claimed that Ubisoft Quebec had started work on a sequel last year. However, Ubisoft recently confirmed the sequel is no longer in development.
While discussing the cancelation, Ubisoft stated that it decided to reallocate creative teams to other projects and focus on its bigger brands. While Ubisoft did not clarify, the studio was expected to be referring to IPs like Assassin’s Creed.
Following the announcement, a new report reveals the studio will focus on Assassin’s Creed Red after canceling the sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising.
Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed is the biggest Ubisoft franchise. Since 11 games are currently under development, the gaming giant is allocating as many resources to the IP as possible.

Asking around, I heard that Immortals 2's focus on Polynesian gods was promising and being handled well. But it sounds like getting AC Red done is the priority at the Quebec City studio https://t.co/KsJF8grBqN

Stephen Totilo from Axios tweeted that the sequel of Immortals Fenyx Rising was shaping up to be a great title. However, it was not a bigger priority than Assassin’s Creed Red.
According to the report, the team is now expected to be involved in Assassin’s Creed Red and Hexe. Previously, Ubisoft decided to increase the number of developers working on the IP, and 2800 developers are working on various projects related to the IP.
The report is also in line with Ubisoft’s previous expectations for Assassin’s Creed Red. The gaming giant believes it will be the biggest blockbuster of 2024. Therefore, the gaming giant is likely allocating more resources to ensure the game lives up to this claim.
Similarly, Assassin’s Creed Hexe could take the series in a brand-new direction, and a bigger development team should ensure this process goes smoothly.
Ubisoft previously claimed to be pleased with the commercial success of Immortals Fenyx Rising. However, the developer has struggled due to the economic conditions in recent times, which has led to a bigger focus on its most iconic IPs.
While the release date of Assassin’s Creed Red has not been announced, the game is expected to arrive in 2024. Reliable sources also claim it will feature two playable protagonists, a male samurai, and a female shinobi.
