New RDNA3 Launch!

AMD just announced another Radeon RX 7000 card during the China Joy event in Shanghai. The graphics card in question is the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE, also known as Golden Rabbit Edition.

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE will be based on the Navi 31 GPU. It is basically an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT with fewer cores featuring 16GB of GDDR6 memory compared to the 20GB found on the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT.

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE is a cut-down version with 5120 cores and 80 Compute Units.

Furthermore, the memory bus and infinity cache have also been reduced to 256-bit and 64 MB, respectively, with a total board power of 260W. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7900 XT features a memory bus of 320-bit and 80 MB of infinity cache.

The specifications of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE have been directly compared to the Radeon RX 6800 XT from the last generation.

The Radeon RX 7900 GRE offers a noticeable improvement over the Radeon RX 6800 XT. It also includes support for 2nd generation ray tracing and AV1 hardware encoding support, which was missing in the previous generation.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT competed with the GeForce RTX 3080, and the Radeon RX 7900 GRE has been positioned in a similar category. It competes against the GeForce RTX 4070, which performs like the GeForce RTX 3080.

According to the performance slides share by AMD, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE is slower than the Radeon RX 7900 XT. However, the card outperforms the GeForce RTX 4070 across multiple titles at 1440p and 4K resolutions.

The new RDNA3 graphics card is already available with an AMD reference model and custom models from board partners, including XFX, PowerColor, and Sapphire. There is no information on how much the custom variants will cost, but the official slides show an MSRP of $649 for the reference model.

The graphics card will also be available for users outside of China though only through system integrators.
