Remnant 2 Dev Claims PC Port Was Designed With Upscaling In Mind

Don't Expect 60FPS Without DLSS/FSR!

Remnant 2 is just two days from its release, but early-access users have already begun to enjoy the latest title. Recently, the developers confirmed it would include a 60FPS mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, leading to hopes for a well-optimized game.

However, early impressions from PC users are far from positive. Recent reviews have shown that the game struggles to work well on capable PCs, and Gunfire Games has addressed the situation on Reddit.

While discussing the PC performance issues, the developers claimed that they designed the game with upscaling in mind.

Why it matters: The developer’s statement has led to concern about poor optimization. Many are concerned that the studio has cut corners, relying on DLSS and FSR to make up for the lacking performance.

Gunfire Games has posted an official thread on Reddit, hoping to troubleshoot and solve the game’s problems. The developer confirms future updates to improve performance but recommends users try upscaling.

The studio said:

“For the sake of transparency, we designed the game with upscaling in mind (DLSS/FSR/XeSS).”

The PC gaming industry has seen many poor ports in 2023.

This includes games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, The Last of Us Part 1, and Forspoken. While these games run poorly, upscaling technologies like FSR and DLSS can somewhat compensate for the poor optimization.

Previously, this has led to concern about overreliance on upscaling. This seems to be the case with Remnant 2, and tests have shown that the game cannot achieve 60FPS with the maximum settings at 4K on powerful hardware like the GeForce RTX 4090.

Gunfire Games does not include support for hardware ray tracing, but users are recommended to rely on upscaling for the best performance. Therefore, this has led to disappointment from PC gamers.

On the bright side, Remnant 2 supports upscaling from all major competitors. As such, users with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel graphics cards can rely on their upscaling method.

This could also be a concerning sign for console performance.

The game is expected to support 60FPS on Xbox Series X and PS5, but the recent PC results might be an indication of poor performance on consoles. Nonetheless, PC users can expect improvements in the coming weeks.
