Another Final Fantasy Title Being Remade!

Remakes and remasters are popular trends in the modern gaming industry. Multiple franchises like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy have seen successful remakes recently, with the latter gearing up to release Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth soon.

However, recent reports claim that Square Enix may already be working on another remake for the franchise. According to the reports, Final Fantasy 9 Remake is currently in development.

Why it matters: Final Fantasy 9 Remake was part of the Nvidia GeForce Now leak from a year ago. The leak has proven accurate, but fans were skeptical about another Final Fantasy remake.

The latest report comes from trusted insider Jeff Grubb. The insider has previously leaked accurate timeframes for the recent PlayStation Showcase and more. Speaking on the latest Game Mess Mornings episode, Jeff Grub stated:

“I heard very recently Final Fantasy 9 Remake is real. That is real and happening.”

He also speculated that Square Enix may not be very ambitious with Final Fantasy 9, retaining most of the game’s original gameplay mechanics. In contrast, Final Fantasy 7 was separated into a trilogy for the remake, with a very different combat style than the original.

This might be good news for fans of the original since remakes with significant changes can often prove to be divisive.

Another leaker previously reported on the alleged remake, claiming that it would not be released for at least 2 years. The leaker also claimed that Final Fantasy 9 Remake would be exclusive to PlayStation, similar to recent Final Fantasy games.
