Diablo 4 Players Upset With Overpriced Microtransactions

$28 For One Cosmetic Set!

The critic reviews for Diablo 4 came out yesterday, and they were all positive. The game has scored 89/100 on Metacritic, and it is shaping up to be a massive success for the franchise.

However, a concern has been raised by players regarding the microtransactions in the game. Diablo 4 players are already upset, and they believe the microtransactions in the shop are overpriced.

Why it matters: The Diablo franchise was previously criticized for microtransactions with recent free-to-play games like Diablo Immortal. However, Diablo 4 is a fully priced game, which could lead to even more frustrations about the microtransactions.

As seen above, the set costs 2800 platinum which translates to nearly $30. The issue was first brought up by Redditor, Uberkull, who posted on the Diablo subreddit. Uberkull pointed out that one set in Diablo 4 can cost as much as $28.

Many other fans are also not too happy with the price, as the comments on the Reddit post are flooded with users noting that this price is outrageous. One user pointed out that the set costs half as much as a new AAA game, while others compared the price to free games like Overwatch 2, which saw similar criticism for microtransactions.

The armor set is also limited to only one class, adding to the frustration of the fans. Fortunately,  the sets are only cosmetic, so they will not affect gameplay. Therefore, players who do not buy them will not be at a disadvantage.

Blizzard has also said that players will be able to earn premium currency in-game via the paid Battle Pass. However, the premium currency earned through the Battle Pass will be limited.

Nonetheless, Diablo 4 still impresses in areas like the story and gameplay. Since the microtransactions are limited to cosmetics, they are unlikely to be a huge problem for the game, but it is not great to see games charging $28 for skins in a premium AAA title.
