AMD Launches New 23.1.2 Adrenalin Drivers For RX 7000 Series, Skips Older GPUs

Skipping Old Gen For More Than 48 Days Now!

AMD has just released its latest drives which are exclusively designed to support the new Radeon RX 7000 series. The Radeon Software 23.1.2 drivers is the third driver update in a row to only support the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT.

On December 8th, AMD made its latest driver available to everyone, which logically included the Radeon RX 6950 XT, with onlyseven7 months of life. If we remember correctly, this is the first time in history that something like this has happened and for such a long time.

And now it’s been 48 days since we last saw an update for the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series, and it isn’t obvious since we don’t know why. Users who did not decide to update to the latest AMD Radeon RX 7000 series are now left in the dark with no update for new AAA game titles, like the newly released Forspoken.

AMD Radeon Software 23.1.2 Driver Highlights Include:

Support for:

  • Forspoken
  • IREE compiler using MLIR interface on Vulkan.
  • Additional Vulkan extensions.

Whatever the case, it seems like AMD’s main priority right now is optimizing its new RDNA3 architecture, especially after its not-so-smooth launch. Furthermore, AMD is also trying to fix the efficiency issue on the Radeon RX 7000 series, making it much better since its launch.

What are your thoughts on AMD avoiding updating its Radeon RX 6000 series?
