  • 007 First Light gets its first trailer unveiled at the PlayStation State of Play.
  • Developer IO Interactive went for a cinematic approach for the game, as per the trailer.
  • The title is scheduled to be released sometime in 2026.

PlayStation’s State of Play has officially kicked off the summer season of video game showcases. This time around, the State of Play lasted longer than its predecessor, filled with first and third-party reveals.

One of the biggest reveals from this time around was the first look at 007 First Light. Covering the origin story of James Bond, IO’s interactive new project is much faster-paced and action-oriented.

Why it matters: The James Bond franchise is one of the biggest ever and has found tremendous success in the gaming world even before. Judging by the first look at this new title, IO Interactive will set a new benchmark for third-person narrative games.

The trailer starts off with Bond being introduced as a reckless young teenager, finding his place in the MI6 program as a Spy. The younger Bond appears to be much adventurous and charming early in his career as a secret agent.

From what appears to be his first mission, Bond can be seen using several state-of-the-art gadgets in a typical 007 fashion. Whether it’s shooting lasers through the watch, using hand-to-hand combat to take enemies down, or guns blazing, the short glimpse of third-person gameplay is filled with action.

The trailer also features driving sequences, implying that it may be a part of the game, perhaps just for once in a mission. The overall theme of the game appears to be cinematic, with IO Interactive seemingly recreating the feel of a movie with the upcoming game.

Overall, the game looks incredible, thanks to its realistic facial models and stunning graphics. Making spy games is IO Interactive’s forte, so trust them to nail the new 007 game.

Currently, 007 First Light is targeting a 2026 release date. More details on the game are expected at the developers’ own showcase scheduled for 6 June.
