Team Promises Final Delay For Polishing!

Story Highlights
  • GSC Game World has delayed Stalker 2 yet again.
  • The team states this delay will be used to polish the game.
  • Stalker 2 is now releasing on 5 September, but more gameplay videos will be showcased very soon.

Stalker 2 has been notorious for facing multiple delays throughout its development cycle. However, recent promotions and updates from the studio led to hopes that this would not happen again.

Toward the end of 2023, GSC Game World announced a Q1 2024 release for its upcoming survival game. Much to everyone’s disappointment, less than one month into the year, the studio has delayed Stalker 2 to September 5, 2024.

Why it matters: Stalker 2 is an important project for all of Ukraine at this point. The game is also a huge day-one title for Xbox Game Pass this year, leading to anticipation from the 25 million subscribers of the service.

According to the update from GSC Game World, the team was fully committed to ensuring another delay would not happen.

However, with the obvious technical challenges and lack of polish, the studio was left with no choice but to push the game’s release back to September. To keep hopes high, GSC Game World said that this delay happened:

“for the sake of yet another wave of polishing.”

To make the wait a bit less painful, the studio has shared new footage of the game. While brief, this trailer highlights progress made in visual fidelity after last year’s showing was criticized for a downgrade.

Ending a heartfelt message, GSC Game World asks fans to look forward to more trailers and information this year. If the last few years have proven anything, it’s the fact that delaying a game is always better than a half-cooked release.

Titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 2042 prove that developers should always be given enough time to realize their vision, and it appears GSC Game World is doing just that for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

We look forward to the game releasing in a polished state in September, with fingers crossed that this will be the last of its delays.
