God Hand Director Wants To Revive The Series Over Anything Else

Would Be A Dream For Action Game Fans!

Story Highlight
  • God Hand was originally published by Capcom and directed by Shinji Mikami.
  • The game ended up being a flop and eventually led to the closure of developer Clover Studios.
  • Director Shinji Mikami is now willing to give the series another shot and work on a sequel.

Legendary director Shinji Mikami has more than a few big games to his name. Bringing to life iconic releases like Resident Evil 4, the developer has found incredible success over the past decades.

However, not every game directed by Shinji Mikami was a huge success. In 2006, he directed God Hand, a character action game that was considered a commercial and critical flop. Despite its past, Shinji Mikami has expressed interest in revisiting the series.

Why it matters: The current gaming era has made it lucrative for studios to rely on remakes and re-releases. This approach has opened up opportunities to revive older IPs that may not have performed too well in the past.

As reported by Wccftech, the director had a clear response when asked about his most-wanted gaming revival. Shinji Mikami wants to see God Hand 2, and it seems the fans are on board since this response was met with plenty of applause.

Capcom currently owns the IP, but Shinji Mikami no longer works at Clover Studios, the team that was shut down after the action game failed miserably. Following his recent departure from Tango Gameworks, Shinji Mikami has started a new studio, but he remains quite interested in giving the franchise another chance.

Many fans believe this series never got the love and attention it deserved. While the original game was not without its faults, it had a lot of positives from a purely gameplay standpoint that were overlooked by the masses.

In recent years, fans have begun to look back on the series with fond memories.

Currently, Shinji Mikami appears to be working on Shadow of the Damned: Hella Remastered, scheduled for release later this year. The director has yet to speak on his future plans, but it’s clear that he remains interested in revisiting iconic IPs from the past.

With Capcom’s current interest in doing the same and working on various re-releases, there may still be some hope for this potential revival, even if the odds appear nearly non-existent for now.
