Call of Duty Returns To Xbox Stage After 10 Years In 2024

Last Featured At Xbox Showcase In 2014!

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft is hosting an Xbox Games Showcase in June, which will be followed by an unknown Direct for a beloved franchise.
  • Leaks suggest the Direct will focus on Call of Duty 2024.
  • The franchise will finally be returning to the Xbox stage after a decade.

Microsoft has just announced its annual gaming showcase. However, the gaming giant has a lot more to offer this year. Similar to 2023’s showcase, the event will be divided into two parts. Xbox will lead the showcase and then follow up with the Special Direct.

Sources suggest this Special Direct will be entirely dedicated to Call of Duty 2024, which is a new Black Ops sequel. Since these sources are very reliable, 2024 will mark the first time in 10 years that Call of Duty returns to Microsoft’s event.

Why it matters: Before PlayStation secured the marketing deal, Call of Duty was closely associated with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 due to Xbox Live’s popularity.

Call of Duty 2024 will be boldly presented as an extension of the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The last time this franchise was featured on the same stage was in 2014, when Microsoft unveiled the first gameplay for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare at E3.

Since then, much has changed, and E3 has completely died. Due to Sony’s exclusivity contract with Activision Blizzard, Call of Duty titles were marketed by PlayStation after Advanced Warfare.

This deal is finally ending in 2024, and Microsoft is the owner of the IP today. However, Phil Spencer promised that he wouldn’t stop releasing Call of Duty on other platforms like Nintendo or PlayStation.

In recent years, Call of Duty has also shown up at Summer Game Fest for its campaign reveals. With this year’s event set to take place two days before the Xbox Games Showcase, Activision’s franchise will likely skip Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest.

Call of Duty 2024 Depicts The Gulf War

While very little is known about Call of Duty 2024, the game is said to be a continuation of the Black Ops series set during the Gulf War. It should launch with an open-world campaign and offer similar gameplay to that of the Far Cry series.

All the leaks can be summed up as a new type of Call of Duty experience with a lot of potential. It should also be noted that Microsoft may reveal the IP’s arrival on Game Pass during the same event to further capitalize on the current buzz.
