- Xbox President Sarah Bond has reconfirmed that development for the next-gen Xbox console is currently underway.
- It is in active development at Xbox in collaboration with AMD instead of being a third-party product like ROG Ally handhelds.
- She assures that as long as there is demand for innovation in the industry, Xbox will keep building hardware.
Xbox has fallen into a lot of controversies this year. Price hikes across hardware and Game Pass also made gamers develop a grim outlook towards the brand’s future. So, rumors sprouted recently that Xbox was exiting the console market, which were quickly debunked.
Now, Xbox president Sarah Bond has addressed the dramatic rumors in an interview and confirmed that Xbox is not quitting making in-house hardware. The active development of the next-gen console is still underway at Xbox in collaboration with AMD.
Why it matters: The new statement squashes any rumors about Xbox entering the console market. The company wants to keep creating hardware as long as demand for innovation exists.
Talking with Variety, Sarah Bond clarifies that Xbox is 100% sticking to making “things in the future.” The Xbox ROG Ally handhelds were developed in partnership with ASUS to innovate gaming and provide players with another option to play the Xbox library on the go.
We have our next-gen hardware in development. […] We have a partnership we’ve announced with AMD around it, so that is coming.

At one point, an internal Xbox handheld was also in development, which was reportedly cancelled. However, Sarah Bond assures that the company will continue producing hardware as long as there is demand for innovation in the industry.
When there is demand for innovation, we’re going to build it.
On the software side, Sarah claims that a flurry of AAA Xbox releases will begin this holiday season, with the new COD and The Outer Worlds 2. The Xbox team will continue this new pace into the future.
The newly launched Xbox ROG Ally lineup will also get more love, as its handheld compatibility program will grow over time.
