Optimizing a game for different platforms is a difficult task, especially when there are way too many differences in hardware. We have seen plenty of developers complaining about how it is too hard to optimize a game for Xbox Series S, with one even claiming the console should not exist

However, it seems like Stalker 2 developers didn’t have a hard time optimizing it for the said console. That developer thinks that the Xbox Series S and X offer a significant hardware advantage over the PC, which makes it easier to optimize a game.

Why it matters: Many have claimed the Series S to be the troublesome console, but GSC Game World has a completely different opinion of the console.

In a recent interview with Tech4Gamers, the Game Director at GSC Game World, Ievgen Grygorovych, was asked, “Given recent performance concerns, can you share how you’re optimizing the game across different platforms, especially for Xbox Series S?”

Grygorovych revealed that it is actually easier to optimize a game on Xbox than on a PC.

First, Xbox offers a significant advantage over PC: a consistent hardware configuration across all players. Leverage this by thoroughly understanding the hardware. Even simple tweaks can yield significant performance improvements.

Grygorovych further revealed that Microsoft had provided the developer with extensive support not only in optimizing the game but also in many other areas. So, it seems like Microsoft made the developers feel at home and offered them real-time assistance.

Our most productive collaboration occurred when they visited our office to playtest, profile, and troubleshoot the game, helping us explore solutions.

The developer had a fun run with Microsoft, and it explains exactly why. GSC Game World focused more on optimizing the game in the final stages of development, especially for Series S. 

So, not everyone has a negative impression of the problematic console, which is good to hear, given its reputation with the developers.
