Game Pass is Microsoft’s subscription service for Xbox consoles and the PC platform; the subscription gives users access to an enormous library of games, similar to other video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime (multiple family accounts under one subscription). In addition to the already huge library, Game Pass promises to give players access to all of Microsoft’s exclusives at release and its other perks.

Xbox Game Pass Family Plan

However, unlike some of the more popular streaming services, Game Pass does not have a solution for multiple users. Competitors like Nintendo allow users to purchase Family Plans, letting them share a subscription between several family members. A Family Plan would be a great addition to Xbox’s growing subscription. Many titles on Game Pass are focused on multiplayer. Therefore, a shared account between multiple users would make it easier for friends and family to enjoy those games without buying different subscriptions.

Not too long ago, it was leaked that Microsoft is working on a family plan for their gaming subscription. They already have similar systems for services like Microsoft Office 365; perhaps those could serve as a blueprint for the upcoming project. Now, we have some more information regarding Microsoft’s intentions for the future.

Industry insider Brad Sams has talked about a possible release date for the Game Pass Family Plan.

As the above video shows, Brad reports that he has heard of a Fall release for the Family Game Pass Plan. He emphasized that the Fall release was Microsoft’s initial target and things could always change. Fall is usually a very busy period for game releases, so it would make sense that Microsoft would want to get a Family Plan out by then. This would greatly benefit households with multiple Xbox customers and add to Microsoft’s consumer friendly image.

Microsoft’s current offerings are already great and with an expected Family Plan, things are looking even better for the future of Game Pass. While a Family Plan seems like a no-brainer, Microsoft has not made any official announcements on the matter. Therefore, it would be wise to take this information with a grain of salt. The current offerings from Game Pass are nothing short of amazing and it seems like this is just the beginning. Microsoft is clearly looking to improve the service in every way possible, in an attempt to stay ahead of the competition.
