Xbox Game Pass has been a revolutionary service for the gaming industry. Game Pass was able to revitalize the Xbox brand, and it continues to play a vital role in the current and future success of the gaming brand.
While Game Pass has been seen as a positive addition to Xbox, it looks like it has not seen the success that Microsoft wanted. Microsoft’s CMA document has now revealed that Xbox Game Pass has missed the 2022 subscriber target by 10 million.
The service has seen 25 million subscribers, which is significantly less than Microsoft’s target of 35 million for Fiscal Year 2022.
Game Pass has accomplished many feats over the last few years. The service regularly adds new and exciting titles, providing unbeatable value to Xbox users. Furthermore, Microsoft also made $29.6 Billion from the service last year.
As such, it is surprising to learn that Game Pass has missed Microsoft’s target by a considerable margin. Game Pass is also sold at a highly competitive price in an attempt to bring new users into the Xbox ecosystem. Despite these efforts, it looks like Microsoft has not seen tremendous success.
A price hike has also been hinted at for Game Pass and Xbox consoles in the near future. This could further lead to disappointing numbers for Microsoft, but nothing is set in stone yet.
On the contrary, Microsoft could finally see their desired success for Game Pass next year. Massive titles like Starfield and Redfall are slated for 2023, adding substantial value to an already excellent service. These heavy hitters will likely motivate millions of new users to try the service for the first time.
Microsoft is currently in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, which will further enhance the library offered by the service.
While Xbox has missed the target for 2022, Game Pass is undeniably Microsoft’s most powerful asset. The subscription service has brought new life into the Xbox brand, and the future looks very promising for Xbox consoles and Game Pass.
