Why it matters: Microsoft hardware hasn’t been doing great this generation. Therefore, moving away from it might help the company survive in the market.

While the Fire TV Stick 4K Max can be combined with Game Pass Ultimate and an Xbox controller to access a huge library of games, it does not replace Microsoft’s console experience.
However, it seems the gaming giant really wants its fans to know that the actual Xbox is no longer as important as it used to be. Unlike Nintendo or PlayStation, which try to push their consoles at all opportunities, Microsoft seems to be doing the opposite.
Rumors have also pointed to various Xbox games heading to other platforms, further highlighting the declining importance of the Series S|X consoles. Currently, IPs like Halo and Gears of War are rumored to make the jump to rival platforms.
Following such divisive decisions, it remains to be seen what the company’s future holds.
Xbox seems to have its mind made up, with a huge focus on software over hardware. This is certainly a risky move, but it could also lead to a huge reward for the gaming giant if it ends up being successful.
