Last month, Microsoft conducted the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase. The presentation had no shortage of big announcements, and many expected Microsoft to play it safe for the year’s remaining months. However, it seems like Microsoft might already be gearing up for another show in a few months.
This information comes from the most recent episode of the Xbox Era Podcast. Industry insider Nick shared some exciting news on the podcast. According to Nick, Microsoft might be looking to bring Xbox X0 back in 2022.
For the unfamiliar, X0 is a Microsoft event dedicated to the Xbox fanbase. The event was brought back in 2018 after a long break. Xbox team members like Phil Spencer have also expressed their excitement for the event, in the past.
Microsoft’s X0 has also been home to several massive announcements throughout the history of Xbox. For instance, the company’s acquisition of Rare was announced at an X0 event. Additionally, Age of Empires 4 saw its first gameplay reveal at X019.
Therefore, it would not be too far-fetched to expect a few big announcements for a potential X022. Xbox could show a brand new look at Bethesda’s highly anticipated Starfield, or the company could use this opportunity to highlight a few more indie titles. An event like X0 is geared towards platform fans, and all sorts of announcements could appear if Microsoft decides to go ahead with this plan.
However, it should be noted that the pandemic could once again prove to be a hurdle for X022. Microsoft would understandably want an in-person event for fans of Xbox but potential restrictions could get in the way of the showcase.
As with any rumor, it would be wise to take this news with a grain of salt. While Nick has been reliable in the past, leaks can always be prone to errors. X0 events are usually held towards the later part of the year, and a theoretical X022 would be a few months away at the very least.
