Wonder Woman Game Stuck In Development Hell And Rebooted Last Year

WB Already Spent Over $100 Million In Pre-Production!

Story Highlight
  • Warner Bros. reportedly rebooted its Wonder Woman game in early 2024.
  • A budget of $100 million has already been spent on the project with no release date in sight.
  • Developer Monolith Production will have been away from the gaming industry for a whopping eight years in just a few months.

Warner Bros. superhero games portfolio includes various ambitious titles, with Wonder Woman being the biggest highlight. This new project from Monolith Productions promises a purely single-player adventure that incorporates gameplay from the Batman Arkham series and Shadow of Mordor.

However, nearly half a decade since its initial announcement, Monolith Productions has little to show for its work. As per new reports, the project continues to be in turmoil and was rebooted last year.

Why it matters: Wonder Woman was announced as far back as 2021 at The Game Awards. Fans have been patiently waiting for an update since then, but it seems their patience will not be rewarded.

The latest report on the matter comes from the reliable Jason Schreier, who states that Wonder Woman is still several years away.

As per his findings, Warner Bros. and Monolith Productions have already spent over $100 million on development, and there is a chance the game may never see the light of day. These concerns are exacerbated by the fact that this project was rebooted in early 2024.

Because rumors suggested that Wonder Woman would incorporate live service elements, the new direction may be a direct result of Suicide Squad’s failure. Perhaps the studio is now rushing to remove said live service elements.

It should also be noted that this is not the first time reports have pointed to a troubled development for this project.

Wonder Woman Will Bring Back The Nemesis System

Monolith Productions last released a game in 2017, marking nearly eight years since Shadow of War. Unfortunately, this report means that the studio will likely go a full decade between two successive releases due to this delay.
