Warner Bros. had a tough year last year, especially within the gaming sector. The sector saw two huge AAA failures and game cancellations, which cost them a whopping $300 million in losses.

However, the latest reports reveal that the total loss for Warner Bros. gaming sector amounts to $384 Million. This came as part of restructuring costs and additional spending on other video games.

Why it matters: Warner Bros., a leading gaming publisher, has owned several huge IPs and needs to fix its approach towards gaming.

This was disclosed in Warner Bros. Q4’s financial report, which is also a summary of the full-year performance.

Moreover, gaming revenue fell by a whopping 29% in the fourth quarter compared to the last year. Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1’s sales set the benchmark high that last year’s performance just couldn’t measure up to them.

Overall, their gaming revenue has dropped by 5% compared to 2023 within the past year. Despite such huge losses, setbacks, and cancellations, including multiple studio closures, Warner Bros. is still optimistic that they’ll get back to prioritization in 2025.

The company wrote that it would now focus on its core franchises that have generated revenue of over $1 Billion, which include Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC – particularly top-tier characters like Batman.
