- Twisted Metal is set to receive a third season for its live-action TV series.
- The actor behind Sweet Tooth has said that the show’s entire cast wants to see the series receive a new game.
- He believes Sony could do something special with the IP due to the lack of interesting vehicular combat titles recently.
The Twisted Metal franchise was rumored to receive a new game from PlayStation in the near future, but reports revealed that the project was cancelled amid layoffs and several unsuccessful live-service releases last year.
Still, the IP continues to live on through Peacock’s live-action adaptation, which is set to receive its third season soon. Discussing the future of Twisted Metal, one of the series’ lead actors has also expressed interest in another game for the IP.
Why it matters: Twisted Metal was left behind with a few of PlayStation’s key IPs on the PS3, and many believe that a comeback is long overdue.
Speaking to Collider, WWE’s Samoa Joe, who plays Sweet Tooth in the live-action adaptation, discussed his hopes for a new game.
He revealed that the entire cast wants to see Twisted Metal returning, and so does the general audience. Samoe Joe continued by saying that Sony is likely aware of the current demand for the IP.
He also praised the gaming giant’s first-party output, suggesting that the company could do something special with Twisted Metal in the future as the car combat games genre has not been the most interesting lately.
We’ve been screaming from the hills. Trust me. We want a new game badly.
Elsewhere, the series’ second season is currently ongoing. The live-action adaptation has led to a rejuvenated interest in Twisted Metal, giving Sony the motivation it needs to make another game.
In the past, the gaming giant also expressed interest in revisiting older IPs, so fans should continue holding out hope.
