The Studio Has Worked On 11 More Projects Since.

Story Highlight
  • Eidos Montreal is working on a massive AAA game that is described as an open-world action-adventure game.
  • The project has been in development for 6 years, and a release is expected soon.
  • The next Tomb Raider game is being handled by Crystal Dynamics.

Eidos Montreal has been suffering quite a bit under the helm of Embracer Group, with recent layoffs that also killed the revival of the A Legacy of Kain IP. That said, the developers are working on a multitude of new projects that could turn things around for the studio.

One specific title is a new AAA third-person action-adventure game that has been in development for 6 years, starting from 2019. Just to get a sense of scale, the studio has worked on 11 more projects since then, while development on this game continues.

Why it matters: There isn’t a better studio than Eidos Montreal to handle an action-adventure game, and fans will be excited to see what new ambitious project it will have to offer soon enough.

Currently, details are scarce on this new action-adventure game, but it has been emphasized that the title is massive in scale and has undergone changes since then.

This big project is an open-world action-adventure third-person game, which is being created by the same team that did Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and it’s been in development since 2019.

Also, Eidos Montreal hasn’t released another title since 2021’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and this new title is also unaffected by the recent layoffs, which impacted a completely separate project.

Eidos Montreal And Crystal Dynamics Plan On Releasing 5 AAA Games By 2028

Conceptualization for this game has been finished, and the studio is gearing up for a Beta with an expected release next year. With The Game Awards right around the corner, we can expect to see more about this title at that event.

As for the Tomb Raider IP, Crystal Dynamics is leading development on the next entry, and even though development has been a bumpy ride so far, this title is set to reinvent the franchise for good.
