"We Decided To Bring An Originally PC Franchise To Consoles"

Story Highlight
  • GSC Game World has praised Game Pass in our recent interview.
  • The team revealed that this subscription played a key role in bringing the series to a new audience on consoles.
  • This is not the first time Xbox’s service has been praised by a studio.

GSC Game World recently launched Stalker 2 and instantly found success in the first-person shooter market. Following more than a million sales, the title has already turned a profit, and the studio is now hoping to achieve $1 billion in revenue eventually.

Much of Stalker 2’s success has also come from Game Pass. The studio seems to be quite pleased with this subscription release and recently praised the service. During an exclusive interview with Tech4Gamers, the director even acknowledged that Game Pass was the leading factor in bringing this PC-only series to consoles this year.

Why it matters: The console user base is larger than ever, but many studios still find themselves often sticking with the PC platform.

Stalker 2 Is Just As Punishing As Its Predecessors

During our latest interview, we asked director Ievgen Grygorovych, “STALKER 2 is launching directly into Game Pass. How important do you think this type of day-one release is for a studio aiming to reach a wider audience? Do you believe Stalker 2 will be the series’ most popular release due to Game Pass?”

He made it clear that this service is a huge help for any title that is included in the day-one catalog. GSC Game World also stated that the subscription provides teams a chance to reach millions of players.

Elaborating further, the director stated that Stalker 2 was released on consoles because Game Pass was far too great a deal to miss out on. Without this deal, the title may have stayed on PC like prior entries.

In the case of Stalker, we decided to bring an originally PC franchise to consoles. The presence in Game Pass guarantees attention from a large number of players.

While the merits of Xbox’s service are no secret, and various developers have praised it in the past, this instance is perhaps one of the more impressive ones.

A Game Pass release for Stalker 2 not only guaranteed the game would be available to a huge audience, but it also allowed GSC Game World to benefit from Xbox support when working on the console port.

All these factors came together and resulted in the console version of Stalker 2. Moreover, a compilation of the original trilogy was released on consoles earlier this year in an attempt to prepare console gamers for the series’ horror-inducing survival gameplay.
