Capcom officially confirmed Resident Evil 9’s development nearly one year ago. Ahead of this confirmation, the game was a hot topic of discussion, with leakers calling it the series’ most ambitious project.

While fans grow weary of Capcom’s silence and lack of updates regarding the title, a prominent insider has shared a small update on Resident Evil 9. He claims that the game’s reveal is taking a long time due to Capcom’s goal of reinventing the IP.

Why it matters: The next game is being developed by the same director behind Resident Evil 7, who previously paved the path for the series’ comeback by focusing on genuinely terrifying atmosphere and gameplay.

Taking to X, Dusk Golem acknowledged the fandom’s current restlessness over Resident Evil 9. He described that Capcom is attempting to reinvent the franchise with this title and compared it to Resident Evil 7 and 4.

For context, both games were major departures from their predecessors at the time of release. Resident Evil 4 introduced the over-the-shoulder third-person camera and more action-focused gameplay, while Resident Evil 7 saw the IP returning to its horror roots with a first-person perspective.

Dusk Golem states that Resident Evil 9 won’t be yet another title that adapts the gameplay of Capcom’s recent horror offerings. He also gives fans hope about an upcoming reveal, stating that more information will come later this year.
