PS6 To Focus On Affordability And Mass Appeal Instead of Raw Horsepower

Will Definitely Be Cheaper Than PS5 Pro!

Story Highlight
  • A new report reveals that the PS6 will focus on affordability instead of raw power.
  • The insider suggests that Sony will be using the same tactic it used with the PS4.
  • He also revealed that the console would cost less than the PS5 Pro and release in mid-2027.

Although the current PlayStation generation may not be best known for its games, the PS5 boasts solid hardware. Many believe the mid-gen refresh, the PS5 Pro, didn’t make sense since the hardware leap wasn’t significant compared to the base console.

The price difference between the PS5 and PS5 Pro was also massive, leading to concerns among the fandom regarding the upcoming generation of PlayStation. Fortunately, a new report has revealed that the PS6 will focus on affordability and mass appeal instead of power.

Why it matters: Microsoft has promised that the next Xbox will feature the most significant technical leap yet, so it will be interesting to see how the comparison will go with PlayStation in the coming generation.

According to Moore’s Law is Dead, a source deemed credible for leaks related to Sony, the company will not go all out with the upcoming PlayStation. Instead, it will appeal to the mass market and emphasize affordability, similar to the PS4.

Remember the PlayStation 4? It was a console that made the choice to not go all out in specs so that it could have mass market appeal after the previous generation left some people feeling burned with how expensive it was at its launch.

It appears that Sony is planning to do this sort of strategy again with the PlayStation 6.

The insider further said that the console will only be 3x more powerful than the PS5, which is a modest upgrade by console standards, but it seems like the tech giant is focusing more on PSSR innovations.

As such, AI will be a key focus for the PS6, just as it is for Nvidia’s latest RTX 50 series graphics cards.

While some people speculate that the upcoming console will cost around $1000, the insider reports that this isn’t the case. He believes that the console will cost less than $600, which would make it cheaper than Sony’s mid-gen refresh, the PS5 Pro.

He has also claimed that the PS6 will be released in mid-2027, despite some reports mentioning a 2029 release window.
