Porting Dune Awakening To Xbox Series S Will Be Challenging, Says Dev

"One of The Reasons We're Coming To PC First"

Story Highlight
  • Releasing games on Xbox Series S has been difficult for developers on many occasions.
  • Dune Awakening, an upcoming MMO, seems to be in a similar situation.
  • The developer has revealed that optimizing the game for this console would require additional time.

The Xbox Series S has proven to be a disaster for many developers. Due to this console, Baldur’s Gate 3, last year’s Game of the Year, was delayed on the Xbox platform. This year’s biggest hit, Black Myth: Wukong, seems to have been delayed due to the same console.

Developers have gone as far as saying that the Xbox Series S shouldn’t exist. Now another studio has faced this problem. A Dune Awakening developer recently revealed that porting the game to this console would be challenging.

Why it matters: While the Xbox Series S is a good budget option for consumers, it has way too many drawbacks.

Many Games Are Delayed On Xbox Due To The Series S

According to VG27, the Funcom chief product officer stated last month in an interview at Gamescom 2024 that the game will take a lot of optimization before it is ready for Xbox. This is why the studio has decided to skip the console launch for now.

It’s one of the reasons we’re coming out on PC first. There’s a lot of optimizations we need to do. Xbox Series S is a challenge.

This is more bad news for Xbox fans, but it seems like the hardware has even impacted PlayStation.

Anyhow, the developer seems to be working hard on the game. According to Funcom, the title will look stunning on high-end PCs. The team is striving to deliver a great experience regardless of your PC configuration.

It sounds like the optimization will be really good on PC. Unfortunately, Dune Awakening still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, but it is arriving in 2025.

As for Microsoft’s budget console, it has yet again proven to be a disappointment, and because of its weaknesses, the developers have to put in extra effort to ensure compatibility.

It seems this will continue to be a problem for the rest of the generation, but Xbox is planning to release its next-gen hardware in 2026.
