Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 Already Announced For 2025!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation plans to launch single-player games every year beginning next fiscal year.
  • They already have Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Marvel’s Wolverine in development.
  • Single-player games are still the preferred genre for most gamers.

Single-player games have always been the more popular genre on PlayStation. With recent busts like Concord, PlayStation seems to be focusing a lot more on them. Sony’s CFO says that from next fiscal year, PlayStation will release major single-player games every year.

Why it matters: Most gamers now prefer single-player games, especially after how poorly the live service model failed in recent years. For context 7 out of 8 best-selling titles this generation are single-player games.

PlayStation will release a single-player game every year

Talking at today’s briefing, SIE President and CFO Hiroki Totoki discussed the importance of single-player games. He says that from the next fiscal year that begins on April 1, 2025, PlayStation will have single-player releases every year.

We plan to continue releasing major single-player game titles every year, from next fiscal year onwards.

fans prefer single-player games over live service

The strategy has been set in motion as Sony already boasts a solid lineup of games for the upcoming years. Both, Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 are scheduled for 2025. However, the latter might be a timed exclusive as Kojima Productions now holds full rights to the IP.

They have Marvel’s Wolverine and Venom in development too, but neither of the games have a release window yet. Fans will be delighted about the shift in policy as single-player games are still superior and Concord and Suicide Squad are great proofs.

But that doesn’t mean Sony is skipping the live service genre entirely. Bend Studio is reportedly working on a $250 Million live service gamer using Horizon’s Decima Engine. However, that’s all the information we have on it right now.
