- Sony has just announced a new PlayStation State of Play for June 4th, which will highlight ‘a selection of great games.’
- The show will last over 40 minutes and will reveal release dates and new updates for its existing in-development titles.
- Fans are expecting to see Ghost of Yotei, Marvel’s Wolverine, and other rumored unannounced entries.
Besides layoffs and project cancellations, Sony has also been criticized for lacking explosive gaming showcases. Its last two PlayStation State of Plays were only considered mildly interesting, but the firm has revealed a new event that might finally turn things around.
Sony has just announced a new PlayStation State of Play, scheduled for June 4th. It will highlight ‘a selection of great games’ and will last over 40 minutes. We can expect ‘news and updates’ on a variety of in-development projects and much more.
Why it matters: The last PlayStation State of Play was far from what the users expected. A lot is riding on this next show, as fans hope that Sony learned its lesson from the mediocre event in February.
As per the PlayStation blog, the event will highlight ‘must-play titles’ coming to PS5. The wording implies that we will also see some unannounced games that the first-party studios have been cooking up over the years.
State of Play returns June 4! Watch live for news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5. The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe.
According to rumors, the event is expected to bring updates on the new PlayStation studio TeamLFG’s Gummy Bears, Bungie’s Marathon, Returnal studio’s Project Saros, Ghost of Yotei, Fairgame$, and Marvel’s Wolverine.
Additionally, we might also see Santa Monica Studios’ new sci-fi IP, which has been in development for 7 years already.
Rumors in the past claimed that Sony was considering a bigger PlayStation Showcase instead of State of Play for Summer 2025. While the company seems to have decided otherwise, this State of Play might turn out to be much bigger than the last few because of that.
Will the upcoming State of Play reveal any new first-party games from Sony? Do you think it will be more appealing than the one we saw in February? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
