Sony Earned Over $650M From PC Ports in FY 2024, Just 3.4% of PS Store Revenue

The PS Store Accounted For 50% of PlayStation Gaming's Revenue.

Story Highlight
  • Ports of PlayStation titles generated $650 million in revenue in FY24, which is only about 3% of PlayStation Store revenue.
  • The PS Store was the primary money-maker for the company, bringing in $16.5 billion in revenue.
  • In addition, this accounted for 50% of the revenue PlayStation’s Gaming Division grossed as a whole.

Sony just announced the financial results for the recent fiscal year, revealing that the PlayStation 5 actually exceeded its sales target for the year. The new leadership has implemented strict new policies to control financial discipline in the company’s first-party studios.

The financial documents also gave us a glimpse at some of Sony’s biggest moneymakers, and it’s safe to say that the various ports of PlayStation first-party IPs are not pulling their weight.

Why it matters: The financial performance of the PlayStation PC ports showcases that their quality is nowhere near company standards.

PlayStation ports
Ports of PlayStation titles didn’t make a massive dent in the overall revenue.

According to the fiscal year 2024 year-end report, PlayStation titles ported to other platforms generated over $650 million in revenue for the brand in FY24. These include new games like Spider-Man 2 and LEGO Horizon Adventures, and PC ports like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and God of War: Ragnarok.

In the previous financial year, the PC ports grossed only 3.4% compared to the overall revenue of the PlayStation Store. The digital marketplace brought Sony a whopping $16.5 billion in revenue through PS4 and PS5.

Furthermore, to contextualize how immense this performance is, the PS Store accounted for 50% of the PlayStation Gaming Division’s entire revenue.

On the other hand, Sony’s PC ports have been underperforming for quite some time now. The port for Last of Us Part 1 Remastered was riddled with bugs and became the worst-rated title from Naughty Dog, while the Part 2 port could not compete with a PS4 while targeting 60 FPS.

God of War Ragnarok PlayStation
God of War Ragnarok was one such underwhelming PC port last year.

Similarly, God of War Ragnarok also underperformed on PC and was released to mixed reviews on the platform. Bugs made the PS5 version look miles better than a high-end PC. Hence, it’s safe to say the company needs to up its game to make some serious money on PC.
