After weeks of rumors and speculations, Bethesda finally shadowdropped The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered a few weeks ago. The title has since achieved massive success, successfully crossing 150,000 concurrent players in just its first day.

The reviews for Oblivion Remastered just came in, and it has scored a very respectable 88 on Metacritic, surpassing many new releases. The overall user score is also ‘Generally Favorable’.

Why it matters: Oblivion was already one of the best games in the franchise, and it is further helped by the fact that the remaster is helping it open to a newer generation and a wider audience.

Oblivion Remastered has scored an 88 on Metacritic.

While the 88 on Metacritic is commendable, it doesn’t quite match the original’s 94. The biggest gripe with the remaster is how it does the bare minimum. It preserves the original’s essence at its core, while scaling up the visuals.

However, the gameplay remains the same, and the game still comes with the same bugs as the original, which should have been improved, according to critical reviews. Fans are also complaining about the lack of language support.

Nonetheless, Bethesda has revealed that Oblivion Remastered has already surpassed 4 million players, a significant milestone. Fans are hoping that, owing to this success, Bethesda will soon announce Fallout 3 Remastered.
