- NieR Automata has achieved a massive milestone, surpassing 10 million sales.
- The publisher is also teasing new content or maybe even a sequel for the future.
- Fans have been asking for a new NieR game for a very long time now.
NieR Automata was a surprise breakout hit. The first NieR game is considered a cult classic, but the 2017 release was the one that brought the franchise to the mainstream, earning both critical and massive commercial success.
Celebrating its 9th anniversary, NieR Automata has surpassed over 10 million units sold. However, the bigger news is that the publisher is also teasing new content, which will be very exciting for long-term fans.
Why it matters: Fans have long since demanded something new from the franchise for years. There have been rumors of a NieR Automata sequel in development as well, and this could finally be it.
Square Enix dropped a video to celebrate the 10 million sales milestone, and in the end, in a very Marvel-like fashion, it teases “NieR: Automata to be continued..” suggesting that something new could be coming our way.
We can only guess as to what it could be. As discussed above, a sequel has been rumored, but whether it will be called NieR Automata 2 is another question. It could also be a new expansion since the game only received 1 major DLC.

Nonetheless, what the title has achieved is nothing short of commendable. It featured a deep-rooted story, great combat, and fun gameplay for the time, and the developers admitted that they never expected it to be this successful.
