Next-Gen Xbox Is Already Dead As It Embraces Game Pass, Says Analyst

Game Pass Takes Away The Value Of The Console!

Story Highlight
  • Analyst claims that the upcoming Xbox is already dead because of its Game Pass model.
  • The service takes away the value of the consoles, leading to faltering sales.
  • Pachter says Game Pass should cost just $10 if it is to be fully embraced for the console.

Xbox recently had a huge leadership shake-up, which saw Asha Sharma taking the role as the head of Microsoft’s gaming division. Notably, the new head has shown a lot of commitment to next-gen hardware despite weak console sales.

A tech analyst claims that the next-gen Xbox is already dead even before launch, as it’ll still embrace the Game Pass model. By pushing too hard for the subscription service, Microsoft has compromised the value of its hardware.

Why it matters: Because all Xbox games are now multiplatform, and Game Pass is also available on PC, there is no major selling point for Xbox consoles.

Analyst says the next Xbox is dead on arrival due to Game Pass

Wedbush Securities Strategic Advisor Michael Pachter, in an interview with GamesBeat, talked about what comes next for Xbox. He declared the next-gen console is already dead due to its Game Pass-centric model.

I think the console is dead. I think they’ve already blown it with the console by embracing Game Pass.

Pachter says Microsoft has gotten it all wrong. Game Pass at $30 doesn’t give players a good reason to get an Xbox console. Instead, the price should be just $10, which would make more sense to the players.

Xbox Game Pass isn’t the same good value as it used to be

Game Pass, especially after its recent price hikes, isn’t considered too much of a great value anymore, so Pacther does have a point. However, rumors point to the next-gen Xbox will feature multiple storefronts.

So, if that turns out to be true, this changes the whole scenario. In theory, a console that runs Steam, Epic Games Store, and a whole suite of Xbox library, seems like a great idea if executed and priced well.
