Square Enix Is Turning One Of Its Best-Selling Games To A TV Show!

Story Highlight
  • Amazon has greenlit a Life is Strange TV show, based on the popular gaming franchise.
  • The show will be headed by Charlie Covell, End of the F***ing World and KAOS director.
  • It will be available on Prime Video, but no cast or release window has been revealed yet.

The original Life of Strange was first released in 2015 to a great reception from the fans. It was praised for a great story, relatable characters, and brilliantly tackling many different themes. Now, Amazon is expanding the franchise to TV.

Amazon MGM has ordered a Life of Strange TV show that will be based on the games. The show will follow Max, a photography student who can rewind time. She navigates while understanding her powers as the story unfolds.

Why it matters: Life is Strange already seemed like a movie due to its interactive nature. However, seeing it as a TV Show can allow directors to be more creative and explore the characters much better.

Amazon has ordered Life is Strange to be adapted as a TV Show

Life is Strange TV show will, of course, be available on Prime Video. It will be directed by Charlie Covell, previously known for projects like End of the F***ing World and KAOS. It comes from Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap.

The latter of these companies was also involved with the Barbie movie, which was both a commercial and critical success, so we can expect high-quality content. However, the franchise isn’t having its best time these days.

Life is Strange Double Exposure
The show will bring the popular story to the TV screens

The latest title, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, received quite negative reviews, with many citing problems like weak storylines and shallow characters, that previously used to be the main strengths of the earlier games.

Nonetheless, if the show is a commercial success, the directors will have the chance to improve the storylines as well based on the audience’s reactions. For now, Amazon hasn’t revealed a cast or any release window.
