MindsEye Developer Working to Regain Players' Trust!

Story Highlight
  • MindsEye is considered one of the biggest gaming failures of 2025, if not the biggest.
  • The game’s publisher acknowledged the failure, stating it has shaken their confidence in publishing third-party titles.
  • Despite the backlash, the CEO confirmed that the game’s developer is actively working to regain players’ trust.

MindsEye, a game that was once hyped as a potential GTA killer, has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments in recent gaming history. Following its disastrous launch, the game became one of the worst-rated titles of 2025.

Players who tried the game were overwhelmingly negative in their feedback, citing a flood of game-breaking bugs and glitches. The backlash was so intense that it appears to have shaken the confidence of the game’s publisher, IO Interactive.

Why it matters: MindsEye will likely be remembered as one of the most notable failures in the industry, a cautionary tale for both developers and publishers.

In a recent interview with IGN, Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, commented on the situation, stating that while the studio will continue to publish its own games internally, it remains uncertain whether they will move forward with publishing external titles under their IO Partners label.

IO Interactive will publish our own games internally,” he replied. “IOI Partners? That remains to be seen.

IO Partners was announced in 2024 as a new initiative to help publish games from external developers. Unfortunately, the very first title released under this banner was none other than the ill-fated MindsEye.

Despite strong pre-release hype, the game was met with immediate backlash upon launch. Review scores reflected the disappointment, with a dismal 37 on PC and an even lower 28 on PS5.

Abrak mentioned that the development team is currently working hard to turn things around and regain players’ trust. He acknowledged their potential and stated that there is still a lot of content in the pipeline. Whether that will be enough to repair the game’s reputation remains to be seen.

When asked if IOI still plans to publish games from other developers in the future, Abrak admitted that the company’s plans in that regard are currently uncertain.
