IO Interactive Confirms Hitman Series Will Continue Beyond The Trilogy

The Hitman Franchise Is Going Nowhere!

Story Highlight
  • IO Interactive has confirmed there will be a Hitman 4 despite other speculations.
  • The team is currently busy with co-op for Hitman 3, 007, and a new IP.
  • So, there will be another Hitman, but it isn’t expected to be announced soon.

IO Interactive is currently set to launch its new major game, 007: First Light, in March next year. Because the title is very reminiscent of its most popular franchise, some thought there wouldn’t be more Hitman games in the future.

However, IO has confirmed that the franchise will continue beyond the trilogy and there will be a Hitman 4. They are also looking to expand the existing game and want to continue doing that moving forward.

Why it matters: Hitman games are the studio’s most popular titles, and they’ve also been really well-received over the years, so it makes sense to continue the franchise instead of leaving it in the dust.

The Hitman series will continue beyond the last game

Speaking to Variety, CEO Hakan Abrak talked about the Hitman franchise and the studio’s upcoming projects. He confirmed that there will be a Hitman 4, but it might not launch soon, as currently they are busy with other work.

But we will, after that (Co-Op), be talking about the next ‘Hitman’ — because, of course, there’s going to be a next Hitman.

However, for those wanting more of the popular stealth games, IO Interactive is already working on a co-op mode for the existing game, and they plan to introduce new gameplay elements and mechanics with it.

The studio also commented on how it is proud of all the work it has ever done on the series, and how it has helped them prepare for 007. In addition, they’re also working on a new IP, Project Fantasy.

Nonetheless, it is great news for the fans of the franchise as it is planned to continue down the line. For now, 007 will be a treat for those who love similar games, as it takes a lot of inspiration from Hitman.
