- High on Life 2 will let you play more than five fully emulated games.
- These titles also include the NES classic Bible Adventures, which isn’t available anywhere else legally.
- The sequel also includes several B+ tier movies, just like the first game.
High on Life 2 has astonished the industry by garnering overwhelmingly positive reviews at Gamescom, with testers who played the game praising the beautiful visuals and engrossing gameplay.
And, as it turns out, the sequel is improving upon the original in a variety of creative ways.
According to Squanch Games’ Art Director Mikey Spano, High on Life 2 will let you emulate and play retro video games, including a Nintendo title that was only available on the NES.
Why it matters: In-game emulation seems like an underutilised idea that developers should use to diversify their video games.
While speaking to IGN at Gamescom, Spano stated that the sequel will also work like an emulator, letting you play more than five classic retro games like the old NES title Bible Adventures. The game actually showed up during the High on Life 2 demo at Gamescom, being playable when Senator Muppy Doo shrinks down to invade the main menu.
Interestingly, this is the only legal way to play Bible Adventures as the NES title is not available for purchase anywhere, and Nintendo’s strict guidelines against emulation make third-party playthroughs risky. Hence, High on Life 2 is raising the stakes in the sequel in a somewhat surprising way.
Yes, you can play the whole thing. And it’s not the only emulated game that’s in there.
Nintendo has historically been extremely anti-emulation, going as far as calling it a “Trafficking offence.” The Japanese giant closed down the popular emulator Yuzu for containing games like Zelda, taking home $2.4 million in the settlement. Therefore, it’s surprising how Squanch Games managed to license Bible Adventures for High on Life 2.
Whatever the case, the sequel will let you play many other fully emulated games in addition to several B+ tier movies, just like the first game. However, we will have to wait a little bit to get our hands on High on Life 2 as the title launches on 13 February 2026.
