Helldivers 2 Xbox Port Was All Sony’s Decision, Says Arrowhead Dev

It Was All PlayStation!

Story Highlight
  • An Arrowhead developer has revealed that the decision to port Helldivers 2 to Xbox was all PlayStation’s.
  • He further reveals that this is one of the coolest things the gaming giant has done.
  • The game is set to release on 20th August for Xbox.

The Helldivers 2 Xbox port was announced a little while ago, and it shocked the fandom quite a bit. Following that, a job posting was spotted, revealing that Sony is opting for the multiplatform strategy, adding fuel to the fire.

That said, fans have been wondering whose decision it was to bring the game to Xbox. As revealed by developer Arrowhead, the decision was made by Sony. This means that Arrowhead had little to no intervention.

Why it matters: This port made many skeptical whether Sony would release more games on the rival console, so fans wanted answers regarding whose decision it was.

This news comes directly from a developer at Arrowhead on Discord. The developer revealed that the whole decision to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox was PlayStation’s, so fans should thank them.

It was all PlayStation. Send them your thanks! We were all in support of course.

-Shams Jorjani

An Xbox fan on the Discord was praising Arrowhead for bringing the game to the console. However, Jorjani was quick to clarify the situation and gave all the credit to Sony. While the developer was, of course, in support of Helldivers 2 heading to more platforms, the final decision was solely based on Sony’s judgment.

Jorjani further said that this is one of the coolest things they have done, so it seems like the developer is pretty happy with the outcome.

This may come as a surprise, as developers often ask the publishers to launch their game on other platforms. Silent Hill 2 Remake can be taken as an example, as Bloober Team convinced Konami to release the game on the PC platform as well.

Furthermore, the Stellar Blade developer also had to convince Sony to remove the PSN restrictions from Steam so every single fan could enjoy the game. There is still no confirmation whether the gaming giant aims to release more games on the platform, but for now, fans can enjoy Helldivers 2 on Xbox on 20th August
