Another Unoptimized PC Port?

Story Highlights
  • The official system requirements for Helldivers 2 have been revealed.
  • The developers recommend a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XTX for 4K/60 FPS.
  • These hefty requirements have fans worried about another poor PC port.

The Helldivers franchise debuted nearly a decade ago and established a small but dedicated fanbase. Almost nine years later, Arrowhead Game Studios is returning with the second game of the franchise.

Helldivers 2 is finally arriving next month, and the developers have released more information about the PC version, revealing the game’s specifications and confirming that players must have a hefty PC to enjoy it at 4K.

Why it matters: The PC community has seen many terrible releases last year. Therefore, fans are easily startled by high system requirements.

The game asks for fairly light hardware for 1080p and 1440p gameplay.

To enjoy Helldivers 2 at 1080p/60 FPS medium settings, PC gamers need an Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. On the GPU side, a GeForce GTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT should suffice.

At 1440p, modern hardware like the Core i5-12600K or Ryzen 7 5800X3D, paired with a GeForce RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6800, is needed. When combined with 16GB of RAM, this type of PC build should handle the game at 1440p/60FPS when running at high settings.

However, 4K settings are a completely different ball game. The official spec sheet asks for a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XTX for the best experience at this resolution, highlighting that PC gamers need quite a high-end PC build.

It should also be noted that Helldivers 2 requires 100GB of free SSD space for installation. Like most modern games, a fast SSD is likely mandatory for a smooth experience.

While these requirements might be concerning, upscaling technology and optimized settings should make the game more manageable at 4K resolution.

The studio has yet to confirm if the game will ship with DLSS or FSR support, but this has been a staple of past PlayStation PC ports. While Helldivers 2 does not directly come from a first-party team, we expect to see these options in the game.

At release, the game will also support cross-play between PS5 and PC, offering the option between controller and mouse gameplay.

Apart from Helldivers 2, recent releases like Alan Wake 2 have asked for hefty requirements on PC. However, Alan Wake 2 ran much better than the specifications led many to believe, so we hope to see a similar trend for Arrowhead Game Studios’ release next month.
