Mass censorship has been a heated topic of discussion following recent changes in the UK. On the gaming front, companies like VISA and Master Card have pressured platforms like Itch and Steam to remove games with inappropriate content.

Although the situation is still developing, another platform has warned gamers that the situation could become far worse. In the future, even major AAA games could be impacted by these problems.

Why it matters: Gamers are split on the recent events. Many believe that titles should not be outright delisted since this can go against the principle of freedom of speech.

GTA 6 Arrives Next Year

According to GamingonLinux, Zoom Platform, a retro games seller, has recently faced problems with payments similar to Itch.io.

The platform claims it has been contacted about concerns about the type of content available on the site, after which it began discussions with PayPal and Stripe to reach a mutual agreement.

Zoom Platform does not currently intend to remove any available content and has already begun exploring alternate payment options. However, the retro game seller believes this is just the beginning.

It warns that franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nukem, and Saints Row are potentially at risk. Among these IPs, Grand Theft Auto would be the biggest target since this series has a history of being controversial due to its satirical and over-the-top nature.

With GTA 6 on track to launch next year, the game could face problems as the new approach to censorship continues to expand and evolve.
