- The New Police system will feature a dispatch timer, which you can use to strategise your plan before the cops arrive.
- You also get immediate wanted levels unless you’re identified, and the cops shoot only when necessary.
- Even your vehicle could be registered, and cops could identify you if you’re the vehicle’s owner.
GTA 6 has become the talk of the town lately, and ever since its gameplay was leaked, it has been even more open for discussion. While many were looking at the mechanics and the graphics from the leaked footage, something was overlooked.
Police System
I’m talking about the enhanced police system, which appears to be different from every GTA game and will change everything for the players. The cops’ behavior suggests a massive leap in realism, creativity, and strategy.
Time Before Cops Arrive
One of the best things about GTA 6 is its robberies. You can enter most of the buildings on the map, including stores and bars, and can destroy most of their items, meaning robberies are going to be wild.
Firstly, if we pay attention to the leaked footage of Julia performing a robbery at Hank Waffle’s Bar, we could see something different right from the get-go. We see a large bar on the screen, which is shrinking.
This bar is the time until cops are dispatched, and as it shrinks the most, it says: “Cops are arriving.” Unlike previous GTA games, now you’ll have time to plan your escape and strategise before the cops show up.
Witness System
Another thing which was found in the previous GTA titles, even GTA 5, where you could commit a crime and get wanted levels immediately. Even if you enter the restricted base, you get wanted levels as soon as you step into it.
This takes away the fun because even if you enter without anyone seeing you, you still get the wanted stars. This doesn’t seem to be the case for GTA 6, which could have a witness system implemented.
Much like Watch Dogs, where people witness you as a criminal and then call the police on you, GTA 6 might take a similar approach. This is where, again, you could be greeted by the time-shrinking bar to strategise.
Interaction With Other NPCS
We already know that GTA 6’s AI will be incredibly immersive on its own, and most of it is because you can interact with the NPCs, which means that every outcome will be different.
From the leaked footage, we can see that you aim at the NPCs and have options to push the cashiers to give the money faster or even rob the people sitting at the dinner table.
This is one feature GTA 6 is to take from RDR2, which would make every interaction a unique experience. Paired with the witness system, you can kill the witnesses or intimidate them into not snitching to avoid getting wanted levels.
Interaction With The Cops
From the leaked footage, when the bar reached zero, we could hear the cops arriving, and even though they see us from the glass, they don’t immediately start shooting. Instead, they’re shouting and ordering us to come out and surrender.
At one point on the screen, you see an option as ‘R1’ followed by ‘Police.’ This could mean that after the cops arrive, we might be able to either surrender or even talk ourselves out of the situation, just like we could in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Smart Wanted Levels
Now, the most noteworthy thing is that there are still no wanted levels even after the police arrive because the cops haven’t identified Julia as the suspect. Only when Julia starts shooting the hostages does the wanted level increase.
This has been designed to depict police interactions that happen in real life. It also means that you can sneak and blend in with the hostages, and the cops probably won’t recognise you.
Cops Only Shoot When Necessary
Another feature to be highlighted is that the cops never shoot us. They only open fire at us when we steal the cop car and drive away. Even then, they only shoot two bullets. To compare, in GTA 5, bullets fly everywhere once you’re wanted.
Vehicle Identification System
We see a “Full vehicle description” under the wanted stars as Julia drives away. Everyone in the game could have a registered vehicle, and police can identify the vehicles by their owner. This means we can switch cars to escape the wanted levels.
This also means that the police could make routine traffic stops or suspect you of something. Paired with the realistic traffic in GTA 6, this will make the driving aspect all the more fun.
Verdict
The police system alone shows how immersive GTA 6 will be, making us think about what more this entire game will contain. While the second trailer’s release isn’t confirmed, we can expect it to release just before the game’s launch.
