"Almost All Games Should Cost More Than $70"

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 is expected to be a massive release and break various records.
  • A Baldur’s Gate 3 developer thinks that Rockstar can even change the pricing trend in gaming forever.
  • He believes games should cost more altogether, but everyone is waiting for GTA 6 to set a new standard.

There is no doubt GTA 6 is the most anticipated release of all time. The game is set to release next year, and the hype is at an all-time high. Many are even counting the number of months since the initial reveal.

Because GTA 6 is expected to be so successful, there has also been a debate around its pricing. Fans are willing to spend egregious amounts of money on the latest GTA entry, and a Baldur’s Gate 3 developer has claimed that Rockstar could change game pricing forever.

Why it matters: GTA 6’s scope is expected to triumph over everything the industry has released so far, potentially justifying its presence as the first game to cost over $70.

If Rockstar Releases GTA 6 With A Hefty Price Tag, Other Developers Will Follow Suit

Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing for Baldur’s Gate 3, mentioned on Twitter that the GTA 6 price tag could forever impact game pricing. He thinks that almost all games should cost more since development.

However, no developer wants to make the first move. So, Douse thinks everyone is waiting for Rockstar to set the trend.

Everyone’s just waiting for GTA6 to do it lol.

However, this move could prove to be controversial since games are already quite expensive as they are.

Even when launching for $70, publishers often charge more through microtransactions, early access offers, and deluxe edition bundles. This is why most are hoping GTA 6 does not break away from the current standard.

Still, if there is any game that could forever change the industry pricing, it would be GTA 6. Rockstar has a cult following, so fans would not hesitate to pay more than $70 if it meant access to the game at launch.

Overall, it will be interesting to see how GTA 6 impacts the industry. Even if it launches for $70, Rockstar will immediately make billions in profits, and GTA 6 will likely become the most profitable title in the industry.

50% of UK gamers are already ready to upgrade their consoles for this release. Fans should also note that the game is expected to feature three islands apart from the nain Leonida state and bring back the weight gain feature from San Andreas.
