- From Take Two’s patents and GTA 6’s trailer, we can assume that the NPCs will be extremely responsive and immersive in GTA 6.
- They might have interesting lives similar to those in RDR2. They’ll behave based on their situation, and their behaviour won’t be the same every time.
- Other AI features might include a realistic traffic system with self-aware drivers and randomly generated objects for enterable interiors.
Ever since the first trailer of GTA 6 was released, people have been going crazy about for game. The trailer has already surpassed 200 million views, making it one of the most anticipated games in the history of gaming.
Advanced NPC System
But do you know a key feature that will reportedly be implemented in the game, and the evidence around it can be found in the same trailer? This feature is Rockstar’s new take on AI, which might revolutionize gaming forever.
NPCs Leading Interesting Lives
As the name suggests, the AI system directly impacts the behaviour of the NPCs. Consider the highly detailed NPCs from Red Dead Redemption 2. They led interesting lives with strict routines, jobs, and schedules that they adhered to.
We can see NPCs having their own lives in the trailer of GTA 6; some are watering their lawn, some are going on a biker rally, and some are catching up with their friends. The world seems extremely lively, unlike previous GTA titles.
Unique Behaviors Depending On Situation
Another great thing about the NPCs in RDR2 was that they responded the same way as people in real life would. This meant that no interaction was the same, and you always had that novelty aspect when it comes to NPCs.
This could also be the case for GTA 6, except it’ll be way more advanced. Based on Take-Two’s AI patent for NPCs, we can expect that NPCs will have their own response system, much better than that present in RDR2.
These NPCs might also react differently to different weather conditions. If they think the weather is too harsh, they might not go out. But these behaviours aren’t etched in stone and could differ for each scenario.
Realistic Traffic System
Rockstar is said to implement a highly advanced AI traffic system that mimics real-life traffic incidents. This is huge because driving is one of the game’s integral parts, and making it realistic enhances the immersion by a mile.
Responsive Drivers
According to Take-Two’s patent for virtual navigation, the new system will change the road conditions and traffic if there is an obstacle. This means that traffic isn’t just vehicles following a track and reacting when something happens to them.
Road Rage To A Whole New Level
With the new system, they’re more actively engaged with a sense of awareness of the world around them. Pairing this with the previously mentioned AI system, where NPCs have their moods and behaviour, we could also expect tons of road rage.
Engaging Police Chase
The new police chase system could also be extremely engaging with this highly realistic traffic system. Imagine other angry drivers crash into the police cars, causing you to gain leverage to evade that scene.
Irresponsible Drivers
This could also mean that police will chase other people when you’re not wanted. For instance, you might be casually driving around and get bumped by a wanted suspect because he was overspeeding and couldn’t control his vehicle.
From the trailer, we saw how a van driver crashed his vehicle, probably because the driver was overspeeding. This seems like an event that is happening on its own in the world without any of our involvement in it whatsoever.
Advanced Interior System
The other aspect of this AI system isn’t limited to NPCs; it also reaches buildings. With another patent around environment generation, we can expect many places to generate interiors using combinations of elements.
Randomly Generated Objects
What this could mean is that Rockstar would have objects for the interiors, such as chairs, paintings, sofas, lamps, and tables, which would be randomly generated for each interior.
Given that 40% of the buildings are likely to be enterable, it only makes sense to implement this new AI feature since it would’ve taken developers a lot of time to map out objects for each interior manually.
What To Expect?
While all of these are official patents, it is possible that they won’t be implemented in the final game. So, take everything with a grain of salt. However, knowing Rockstar, they will definitely go above and beyond when it comes to AI.
