  • The handheld weighs around 1 kilogram with the detachable 80Wh battery on.

Every year, the handheld market continues to see exciting changes with newer hardware packing more power each time. GPD, a pioneer in gaming handhelds, has unveiled GPD Win 5, poised to become the most powerful handheld on the market.

The GPD Win 5 is the first handheld to be equipped with the AMD Ryzen AI Max 395 “Strix Halo” alongside the Radeon 8060S GPU that delivers a performance equivalent to the RTX 4060.

Why it matters: The handheld market is becoming more competitive and is the future of gaming. It’s exciting to see how much power can be packed in these small machines, and gaming on the go has never looked so appealing.

The GPD Win 5 is the first Strix Halo-based handheld, one of the most powerful APUs right now. The AMD Ryzen AI Max 395 configuration features 16 Zen 5 cores, 40 CUs, with a TDP of 55-75W

The handheld device will be available in three memory options: 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB of LPDDR5X memory at 8000 MT/s. It will also offer storage capacities of 1TB, 2TB, and up to 4TB of M.2 storage.

The GPD Win 5 comes with a mini SSD and a Micro SD slot for additional storage. Moreover, it features 2 Type-C ports, 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2, 1 USB 4.0, a 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and hall-effect joysticks.

The GPD Win 5 is also the first handheld in its series not to feature a keyboard.

Even with all these beefy specs, the display is limited to a 7-inch 1080p IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. To compensate for all this power, the GPD Win 5 features a detachable 80Wh battery, which will make the handheld weigh around 915 grams, almost a kilogram.

As such, a 180W charger is also shipped alongside, which the company is referring to as a PSU.

Although the GPD Win 5 is now live on the official website, its price remains undisclosed. Still, expect it to cost around the $2000 range, considering all these specs.
