Lord of the Rings: Gollum Publisher Used ChatGPT To Write Poor Apology

Couldn't Bother To Write Proper Apology!

While the gaming industry has seen many impressive releases this year, 2023 has also delivered a few terrible games, including The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, released over five months ago.

The game was launched half-cooked and quickly became Metacritic’s lowest-rated game of 2023. Daedalic Entertainment was also forced to issue an apology for the disastrous release, but sources have suggested that this apology was written using ChatGPT.

Why it matters: This discovery has received negative reactions, with fans expressing disappointment at the lack of a genuine apology after Daedalic Entertainment’s recent failure.

The information comes from GameTwo’s documentary, with two sources reporting the use of AI software for the apology. It has also been claimed that the developers did not have any idea about the apology, as it was published by Nacon.

Since the apology, many have noted that it misspelled the game’s actual title as it says “The Lord of Ring: Gollum,” which may have been caused by an error from ChatGPT or its outdated knowledge.

The documentary also highlights that Daedalic Entertainment was limited to a mere $16 million budget, leading to multiple hurdles during the game’s development. While the team spent five years on the game, this budget meant they had very limited resources.

We believe this is an embarrassing situation for the developer and publisher. If true, it highlights the lack of effort and sincerity from an industry known for often hiding the bigger picture from its audience.

Following the poor release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment’s future project has been canceled, bringing the developer’s journey of creating games to an end.

While the developers may have been shocked and forced into a difficult position after the failure of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the publisher’s use of ChatGPT is not justified in any scenario.

The game launched to industry-wide criticism and failed to deliver on its promises, and a genuine apology was the least publisher Nacon could have offered to improve the situation from a few months ago.
