Story Highlight
  • Ghost of Yotei is a sequel to a critically acclaimed game, but many fans aren’t excited about it.
  • Even the fans of Ghost of Tsushima aren’t hyped for this game.
  • Ghost of Yotei is set to release on October 2, 2025.

Ghost of Yotei was announced during the PlayStation State of Play last year, and to no one’s surprise, it shocked the fans. While fans were demanding a sequel to the renowned Ghost of Tsushima, they were probably not expecting such a big game to appear at a state of play.

However, with the passage of time, the game’s hype is dying, and fewer people are actually excited about it. Following the gameplay reveal video, many fans expressed disappointment, as the game appears to be too similar to its prequel. Now, even Ghost of  Tsushima fans aren’t excited for Yotei.

Why it matters: Those who enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima were pretty hyped for Yotei, but now a lot of them seem to have changed their mind.

The Former Sony Boss Previously Said Not To Buy The Game If You Don’t Like It

On NeoGAF, one of the biggest gaming forums, a person posted, “I loved Ghost of Tsushima… why am I not excited for Ghost of Yotei??” The thread is filled with fans claiming they have no interest in this game due to forced agenda and other reasons.

DK if its just feeling burnt out on the setting, them not marketing the game well, having doubts it will be improved over part 1, and suffering from boredom of yet another she-quel. I feel meh about this game.. anyone else in the same boat?

Another fan commented, “I platinumed GoT, played it a ton, but have no interest in this sequel and plan on skipping it”. There are many more comments, with one even joking around that you don’t want to play as a strong female protagonist in a respectful, politically strong historical setting?

Even with the recent gameplay footage, the game hasn’t managed to change the perspective of such fans. The similarity with Ghost of Tsushima is too high, despite a 300-year time difference between the two periods. Due to that, the fandom was expecting a bit more innovation.
