Despite overwhelming negativity from fans, studios continue to use generative AI in game development. New reports have revealed that big names like Halo Studios are going all-in on the technology and will make it an essential component of any future development.

If you ask Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino, generative AI will be essential in the future and can reduce the bloated AAA development cycles that currently plague the industry.

Why it matters: Generative AI is not well-received by fans, but its use to shorten lengthy development cycles could be revolutionary.

While trying to clear up misconceptions about X, Akihiro Hino stated that generative AI could reduce the AAA development period to just 2 years.

It might shift us from a world where developing the AAA games takes 5-10 years to one where we get to enjoy them every two years.

According to Level-5’s CEO, it takes 5-10 years for a studio to develop AAA titles that players enjoy, but AI has the power to change that. Considering how giants like Sony already have plans to speed up development by utilizing AI, Akihiro Hino’s prediction isn’t too incorrect.

Hino further explained that viewing AI as evil could be detrimental to technological development, and we should use it as a tool for progress instead. The CEO of Level-5 also claimed that many developers are already using generative AI to gain efficiency, but most are not publicizing their practices.

Level-5 and Akihiro Hino, who have developed games like Inazuma Eleven and Professor Layton, have been under constant fire recently for using AI tools like ChatGPT to design characters, further solidifying the extremely negative opinion fans hold of generative AI.

Level-5 has received backlash from fans for its use of AI in titles like Inazuma Eleven.

Hence, while it’s hard to deny the impact generative AI will have on AAA game development, fans aren’t likely to come around any time soon.
