If you want to play unoptimized games these days at max 1440p settings, you should probably need high-end graphics cards, which costs more than $1000. Even mid-range graphics cards these days are so expensive.
The price of the different hardware components to assemble a PC is high today. We can blame COVID-19, the shortage of chips, or the war in Russia and Ukraine, but we cannot forget about inflation and rising costs.
In the end, it all adds up, and those overpriced graphics cards we saw in cryptocurrency mining are still here, but this time officially. It may sound a bit exaggerated to make that comparison, but we have already seen that GPUs like the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti are selling for almost 1,000 dollars. Though, For the RTX 40-series deals, the PNY technologies are at the forefront.
Today the company has lowered the price of the custom GeForce RTX 4080 XLR8 graphics card from $1219 to $1139. This is the price that is now listed in the Major US retailers. However, NewEgg gives offers a 30% additional discount. This brings the price 7.5% below the original MSRP.
The PNY GeForce RTX 4080 XLR8 Gaming Verto EPIC-X RGB is the highest-end custom model from the company. The graphics card has a sturdy 3.5-slot design and a boost clock of 2505 Mhz, powered by a 16-pin connector.
The GeForce RTX 4080 was priced very poorly and was 71% more expensive than the GeForce RTX 3080 while not offering higher gen-on-gen performance. The launch of RDNA3, especially the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, didn’t make things easy for Nvidia and GeForce RTX 4080 sales.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, a direct competitor to the GeForce RTX 4080, offers a lower price at $959 and is equipped with more memory (24Gb). So it did not make sense to go with a card that costs more and has less memory (16GB).
Nvidia has realized this and has started dropping the price of high-end RTX 40 series cards to check the market slowly and gradually. However, the high-end RTX 40 series cards cost is still high for most users.
