Could Be Huge For G.I. Joe Series!

Story Highlights
  • A new job listing has revealed that the AAA G.I. Joe game will be an open-world project.
  • It will feature the Legendary Snake Eyes as the protagonist and will be set in the G.I. Joe universe.
  • The game is also expected to be using Unreal Engine for development.

Hasbro revealed earlier this year that they are working on a new G.I. Joe game. While there have been a bunch of games in the franchise, this one will be the most ambitious of them all. Apart from its AAA scope, the game will also feature an open world.

Why it matters: Despite the movies not getting the same love, G.I. Joe is a critically acclaimed comic book franchise. Considering the scope and general stories of the franchise, an open-world setting seems the best for an adaptation.

The developers want experience for both open world and linear game design.

The information has surfaced through a new job listing at Hasbro, which is looking for a World/Level Designer. Not a lot is known about the game yet, except that it’s the first AAA open-world G.I. Joe game and will be a third-person action/ adventure game.

Moreover, the project will feature Snake Eyes as the protagonist. Additionally, the listing also states that the ideal candidate should have experience with Unreal Engine, hinting that the game might use the engine for its development.

Being handled by the team that delivered Batman Arkham Asylum, the game is already showing a lot of potential. This series undoubtedly has several great characters and storylines that can translate well into the video game space.

As for what exactly the storyline will be, it is too early to discuss. Based on the listings and other information, the game seems to be in its very early stages. This means we might have to wait a long time to hear more about it officially.

Hasbro is also having a very interesting 2024. After the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the company revealed that they are moving forward with the sequel without Larian to avoid a long development time.
